Phil Huston had to turn back from the summit. The longtime rock climber had trouble getting a deep breath during a climb with his friends. His difficulty breathing continued after he returned home so Phil visited a pulmonologist. The diagnosis was Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder or COPD.
For several years following his diagnosis Phil kept his condition hidden from friends, climbing buddies, and even family members.
Phil and his girlfriend Alice Tibbetts sat down to discuss his journey with COPD, what it takes to remain active, and how one climb in Utah changed his perspective of living with a chronic condition.
